    How you kill your TCM.

Costly mistake? Transmission computer should only cost about $15 to $50 tops.... car-part.com has one for $10 in my state. And there's no shortage of them.

NEED HELP with gutted cobalt not starting.

Did you remove the HEADLIGHT WIRING HARNESS? There is one ground wire that feeds back to the fuse block thru this harness.

    Moisture in Headlight

You can get a new aftermarket assembly for around $49 or less. Will come crystal clear with new bulbs.

    Lower control arm problem.....

I suppose it could be a bad new part. You should return it, and compare it to another one while your in the store, unless you got it off the internet. The bushing can be driving in a little more, maybe even centered. It's just pressed in, couple of large sockets and a hammer will do the trick...

    Lower control arm problem.....

Quick test for you. Jack one side up, and remove wheel. Place a 6x6 block of wood under lower control, by the ball joint with out hitting the rotor. Let jack down so vehicle is resting on the block of wood. KEEPING YOURSELF OUT FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE, use a large pry bar on the back of the...

    2005 Chevy Cobalt Oil Problems!

To my knowledge the cobalt should run without oil, or oil pressure. I have bought them with broken oil pans and they start right up. You might have another problem. When you say won't start, do you mean won't crank, or cranks but won't start? Cobalts may not start if... ALTENTOR is bad...

    Trunk release

I'm not 100% sure on the trunk button. I'm 100% sure that the body control module is what commands the trunk lid solenoid to open. And 100% sure that shorting any wires that lead to the BCM(or adding +12 volts) can be a mistake. Learned that while trying to fix a power lock issue, using old...

    Trunk release

It's pretty simple switch. With a spring. I'm assuming you mean the button is stuck in, or is the whole assembly pushed in thru the panel? You can remove the little door that opens, GENTLY, and access the switch, unplug it. Put it in your hand button down,(like in your fist) smack your hand on...

    headlight issue... 08 ss

Might be annoying question, but did they ever work right? When did they stop working correctly? When you checked your fuses, did you check to see if power was going to them or just pull them to see if they were blown? I would suspect there is a relay somewhere in the fuse box as well. Numerous...

    Battery wires

The wires in the trunk on the Battery cable is an AMP METER. It senses how much current the vehicle is drawing/charging. There's alots of reasons for it being there. Pretty standard on every GM vehicle now days.

    Trunk release

Don't short the wires together!!! This was a common practice about 15 years ago, but NO LONGER. The switches are not switches as in the old days. The voltage going to the switches are now 5 volts, and the BODY CONTROL MODULE is looking for a resistance value not a OPEN, CLOSED condition. Same...

    Looking at buying a Cobalt

Try to get an 07 and up(little more hp, and motors are hard come by for 05-06). Listen for timing chain rattle. Power windows ONLY(unless its so cheap you can't resist). Dark (the black) colored interior, the lite colors stain, with water even. Make sure it has cruise, and hopefully a key fob...

    Reset throttle position sensor

Fastest solution to your problem, would be to get a used one. Use Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market to find a close one to you. Should be $50 or less. They refer to it as a "throttle body/throttle valve housing". All the gaskets are reusable. You could also try to find a Snap on Solus...

    Reset throttle position sensor

Are you sure you assembled everything back together right? A vacuum leak could cause the same condition. And it's not like you can watch it with everything assembled.

Cobalt loses TPMS info 15 seconds after turning off car

I know the Cobalt pretty well. But the TPMS is about the only thing on the car I don't know. I know the sensors broadcasts a signal, TIRE PRESSURE and ID. Which computer/module receives the information and sorts it into RF, LF, RR, OR LR I don't know. The BODY CONTROL module does not have any...

Can't figure out the cause of my P0411 code

I was thinking of my old Snap On Solus. Cheap china Tech2 will do it to. Either can be found pretty reasonable today. Maybe even an OTC Genesis.

If you have a local self serve scrap yard...

Last Saturday I was wondering around a self serve salvage yard, when I came across what looked to be a painted valve cover 2.2l ecotec in a 2006 Cobalt LS. I first started to laugh. But upon closer inspection, it wasn't just the valve cover, the whole motor was painted, and painted very well. I...

Can't figure out the cause of my P0411 code

You can recalibrate the butterfly with a good scan tool. But honestly, I've never done it, or had to do it. And I always move it with my finger, though I probably don't do it with the key on. I have changed quite a few of them as well. They tend to get hit in every front end accident. Have to...

Can't figure out the cause of my P0411 code

Your exhaust manifold gasket could be bad or leaking. Do you live in a state where there is emission testing? I live in Michigan, we don't have the testing, but I have some experience with the California emission vehicles. I have noticed a pattern of cracked heads. While there is no...

    Cobalt not starting

Assuming your battery is good. Check the fuse box(under hood) there is a relay marked STARTER. You should feel it click, when someone turns the key. If it doesn't click, switch the relay with another in the box(making sure they have the same number) and try again. If it doesn't click, there...

LT 5 speed-- tranny, clutch or me?

Just an FYI, if you find the clutch is bad, get it from a gm dealer. Last time I did one, autozone wanted almost 300. The dealership sells a factory one for $180. There maybe some other places cheaper, I haven't replaced one in awhile, I prefer OEM parts when they are reasonable. $180 is not...

    Chevy cobalt coupe door panels?

Most yards sell the panels separately from the door. So try looking up the door(on car-parts.com), and ask about the interior panel. Try to find one that was still on a car with the window up. The plastic degrades quickly when left out in the sun and rain. If you happen to live near Holland...

Chevy Cobalt 2005 Mud Flap/Splash Guard

The clips(I call them plastic push pins) for the front are the same in the rear as well. You will also find them in every SATURN S-SERIES. You can find saturns in every junkyard in you can't find a cobalt. Bring a pair of angle cutters to get them out. The ones at the part store will work, but...

    Oil Leak HELP!!

I would suspect that you are looking at a valve cover, timing chain cover or crank pulley seal leak. I would look to see if the timing chain is cutting a hole thru the valve cover, that would be a serious problem.

    Random Misfire PLEASE HELP!

I wouldn't worry to much. You can get a motor from a junk yard and have it put it for around $800. If you are at all good with some hand tools, you should be able to get a motor for $400 and do it yourself. I am assuming your car is not an SS with a 2.0, because the section you have posted in. I...
