SVC Tire Monitor - Cannot learn the sensors

A couple of day ago I took the car to a brake shop to check how much brake pads I have left. I was there and was watching while they were working on the car. What they did was to lift the car, remove the FR wheel, so they can see the brake pad, put the wheel back, remove the RL wheel, remove the drum, so they can see the pad, and put the wheel back. So in summary only two tires were removed and put back to their original places. After that it start showing SVC TIRE MONITOR and the tire light blinks for about a minute and then stays on all the time and every time. The guys at the shop were surprised and did not know what to do with it. Their suggestion was to drive for a little bit to see if it will go away, but 5 days later the SVC TIRE MONITOR and the light are still on.

I tried to relearn the sensors, and the car goes in tire lerning mode, but for some reason does not learn any of the tires when I'm deflating or inflating them, no mather which tire I will try. After a while the car beeps twice and exits the learn mode.

I wonder if I have to check the tire monitor receiver and check the wires or possibe fuse, but I'm not sure where to look at.

Just for the reference my tires are inflated into the stock requirements.

Any help will be appreciated.

What year, style and trim level is your car? Did you buy it new or used? How many miles were on it when you bought it? How many miles are on it now? Are those the original rims? Tires?

Sounds like you're missing the transmitters but the above questions will help narrow down your new plan of action.

Oh, sorry I did not clearify that. It is 2008 Cobalt LT Sedan. I got it used 2 weeks ago. The car has 31k miles and the tires/rims are the stock original ones. They have the white metal steem valves that are tipical for sensors. At least this is how it looks from the outside.

As I said the tire light and the SVC message were not there when I got the car and I was driving it for about a week. After those guys checked the brakepadsa week ago, the tire light and the SVC message appeared. On the other hand I never saw a tire preasure reading on the screen from the very beginning - it was alwas dashes for all 4 tires even when the SVC and the light were silent.

the sensors will either be a hard black plastic or will be silver aluminum. if all you've ever gotten is the --- then chances are there is either a fault in the rcdlr or all the sensors are bad. both are possible. have you had any issues with your fob not working?

When I got the car, it did not come with a fob. I got one off ebay and had it programmed 3 days ago. So the fob works with no problem. Is it the same module that handles the keyless entry and the tire pressure sensors?

You still have the 36k mile bumper to bumper warranty, take it in and see if they can help you out. I'm guessing either all of the sensors are bad or they aren't there at all.

The car was first purchased Sep 07 and the warranty expired.

Ok, here is the update. I got one of those relearning tools like this one

I was able to identify one bad sensor and I replaced it. After that I was able to relearn all the tires. The car did all the beeping and lighting thing, finished with the two beeps, and all the tires are suppose to be learned. But for some strange reason I sill have the SVC TIRE MONITOR on and no reading on the tire pressures on the dash. I have driven the car for 10 miles already. It should be able to catch the sensors since it learned them... Do you have any idea what could be wrong?

drive it some more. or try relearning them again. sometimes it doesn't always catch. also if you have a scanner clear any codes that come up

I have driven more than 200 miles already and still dashes and SVC TIRE MONITOR message. I'm going to the dealership in a coulple of days. Could be related to Service Bulletin #08-03-16-001B: Key Fobs Inoperative, TPM System Not Reading Correctly - Dashes on Al Four Tire Readings, DTCs C0775, C0569, B3105 Set, Unable to Program TPM Sensors (Reprogram RCDLR) - (Jul 31, 2008)
