Rear engine conversion? Is it possible?

I had the wild idea yesterday to take the engine and mount it and its fwd drivetrain in the rear and moving my gas tank and spare and such to the engine bay effetively making it a rear engine rwd vehicle, in theory could this be done?

yeah it can be done just depends on the skill of engineer/mechanic, time and $$$ really. i would love to help but my happy ass is way up in Alaska.

some have done that to the corvair. and if you do a search you will see a bunch of cars that had this done. but like stated it is time money and troubleshooting to perfect it. but like so many think if the engine was in the back the car would become unstable. i personally don't think so ans i have driven both and in a skid had both types send the back of the to the front so your going back wards anyway.
