I live in Colorado, now. The tank will hold somewhat close to 11 gallons, but It is a long way to the next pump, so I try to keep it above 2/3 full. To find out what your MPG actually is, I would suggest that you go at least 3 tanks or more and read the pump to the full 3 places after the . And use the milage starting from the origional fillup.

Driving with the Light Foot will help. Cruse control should help. 5 or 0 weight oil will be a little slicker, and help.

Keeping the tires inflated can make a big change.

One thing that I used to do on Rt 128 around Boston, was to drive with a cup of coffee on the dash, and not touching the brakes. Driving at an even pace. Each time you have to hit the Brakes, you were driving too fast and have to pay the price. $$$

Start to keep a Log of gas fill ups, in a book. Oil Changes are included, and underscored.
all the repairs are added. But now you have a good idea of how much gas you are using.

Anytime you have a check engine light, WRITE is down.

Used to drive from Boston to Carlile. Interesting drive.

There is something terribly wrong. I get like 35 MPG highway and I have some slight mods. Either way you should be getting better mileage. Run some Lucas injector cleaner, new spark plugs, and octane booster. If that doesn't work then like they said the cat can be a problem.

Theres gotta be something thats messed up. I deliver papers 7 nights a week, 80 miles a day. Through my route is constant stop and go, and on Sundays my car is squatting like I have shamoo riding shotgun. I still clear 29.8 mpg driving through the route, and thats always shifting between 3200-3500rpm. I still clear between 350-380 miles on a tank... Maybe try some seafoam, and see if that helps.. or take it to a gm dealership and have them run the TechII on it and see if they can find anything wrong..Best of luck to you :sorrysign:

30 MPG in Ohio is not all that bad. Could be better. 5-30 oil should or even lighter should help out. I have tried run my local test strip 17 miles or so up a slight hill. I have tried tire pressure from 28 to 40, and it does make a difference. A light foot does make a difference.
Synthetic grease can help. Weather out there according to my Brother in Milford says the weather is HOT. The A/C or open windows will play a part. A New Air filter should not make any difference that you will be able to measure. It would be interesting to block it for one day or two to see if it will change the MPG. Would like to know. I was going to try driving Mt Evens where you can get to 14,000 Ft +. Traffic gets in the way, but it something that you just can't do in Ohio.

Keep at it. Interesting to see what you can report.

I was on the highway today, averaged 26 mpg while going a 80-100mph with full blast AC

This highway is known as IH-10.

You never state how much gas is in your TankFill. Do you let it fill until the pump first clicks off, and not top it off? On your trip across the country, how many miles did you do? and exactly how much gas did you use? Not guess, but exactly? Not rounding off.

Try driving for a week or more, at least several tanks, make sure you record each tank as closely as you are able. My wife will not record the gas when she adds gas, so if it gets down to half full, I have to fill it.

You might fill the tank slowly each time.

Keep at it. eventually you will find it.

One thing that I have is a CarChip - Davis; a Black Box that will record your MPH, and four engine perameters, such a engine Temp, Battery Volts, O2 Voltages, Manifold Pressure. It will show how well the cruse control will keep your MPH up, level, but will keep you under the Radar range. My son, in the ARMY was having problems, emissions. The dealer could or would not find it. Sent him this device while he was in Hawaii. It showed the temp at 150 F. New Thermostat was a quick, cheap fix. Everything is imported out there. Gas is expensive, however there is nowhere to go.

The second trick I have come upon. When stopping for gas, ask folks how they are doing. Tricks they have found.

Diesel will give you great mileage, If you engine is Diesel. Once in a while you will hear of some one wanting to get in on the action. It is one thing that you do NOT want to even Think about.

Topping OFF the tank. A NO NO. Raw gas getting into the CAT may kill it. And if the engine will not get the O2 reading to adjust the fuel flow. Just let the pump shut its' self off. It is of little advantage to squeze it.
