Exhaust camshaft sensor code

first off i have a 2009 colbalt LT 2.2l nothing fancy, completely stock 72k miles. yesterday i was driving home cruising on the highway and my check engine light popped on, prompting me to pull over and check things out visually. nothing sounded out of the norm and everything seemed to be good. i get it home and take it to the local O'reillys and use their scan tool to pull the codes. what i got was this

P0014
Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) System Performance

does this mean the sensor has gone bad? the car seemed to be running smooth for the remainder of my drive home, decent gas mileage and whatnot. is there a way to test this thing with say my multimeter? ive got roughly 1500 miles left till my warentee expires so if it needs to be fixed i'd like to do it so as i drive that many miles in just a matter of a few weeks.

I realize this is being brought back from the dead but in the past few days my car has thrown 4 codes, P0010 once and P0011 3 times. i see that the P0011 code is listed in the article posted above but not the P0010 code. ive also notice the car every once in a while wont start on the first try and usually will after 2 more attempts. once started the engine revs odd, it will jump between 700 and 1000 rpms. and the car kind of lerches forward at a stop sign. the car has 84K miles now and isnt quite due for an oil change. any ideas? car hasnt been driven more than 500 miles give or take since i got notice of all the recalls.

There's no sensor on the exhaust cam shaft(there's one on the intake). There is a solenoid for the exhaust cam(part of the variable timing), it's very easy to change and costs about $40. Both intake and exhaust solenoids are on top of the engine in the valve cover by the number 1 spark plug. The exhaust one is closet to the firewall. In the HHR, when this part fails, it makes the transmission shift weird, like it has internal problems. Will usually turn on traction control lights as well(in HHR).

I had to replace one of my solenoids not too long ago. Single 10mm bolt and 5 minutes of time is all it takes.
