Tire Size Dilemma

hello........I have a 2008 Chevrolet cobalt sedan 2LT , 2.2 engine...my question is, can I put 215/55/16 tires on this model my oem is 205/55/16. I did some research and ive seen 2009 cobalts using 205/55/17< wouldn't the extra diameter( 16 vs 17) be close to the 205/215?

I hate the way they do tire measurements, the first number is in MM, the second is a percentage of the first number, and the last number is in inches.
