Misfire problem

i have an 05 chevy cobalt base model with about 160,000 miles on it. when i got off work i started it with no problem and let it warm up for about 5 minutes and it was running like normal. first thing i touched the gas it cut off and when i tried to restart it it would almost act as if i didnt have any gas. when i finally got it to run it had a constant non stop misfire in what im just guessing was just one cylinder. any ideas on what it could be? id love any feed back. thank you for your time
