Hi I am looking for a new to me car for work. I put about 20K miles a year on a car so the 37 MPG is looking pretty good. The car will be a back up family car in case my wives is in the shop so I need the 4 door.

I was thinking about getting a HHR but the price of the cobalt is cheaper by about $2,000-2,500 so worth checking out. I have driven two diff 2010 models I think both LT. The first hurt my back after about 2 miles the other I didn't get to drive as far but I could feel the pain starting.

Doing research I see the cobalt and the HHR share the same frame/chassis. I have driven the HHR and I don't have any back pain driving them.

Did the seats change over the years? If so what years?

Looks like they changed the 2.2 motor from 08 to 09. Which is a better choice? Or should I just go for the 2.4 that is the 08?

For the right price I would be willing to replace the seats.

Other issue is handling. I know they won't handle like a race car but I want it to be fun to drive. Driving the HHR is a bit sluggish but the 2LT has a sport suspension and is more fun. Do the cobalt have the same sort of thing?

I'm sure I will have more questions after some more research.

The 2.2 is more gas economical than the 2.4. the 2.4 is more for power than anything.

idk why the seats hurt you but most of the time when the seats hurt you its the position of your body.

from what I heard the LT has more options than a LS but I cannot correctly confirm that.
good luck on your find.

i have a LS and my wife has a LT . everyone that has been in my car has said its more comfortable . you dont feel so low and like your laying down . i hate long drives in her car it makes my ass and lower back hurt . there is more aftermarket stuff you can buy for a LT tho . buy still there is enough for a LS for me . i like my 4 doors .

another thing . before you buy your car make sure the control arm bushing are good . they both have blown in both the LS and LT beside that only other problem was fuel pump in the LT . LS 157k LT 138k

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about the seat last night and it might be how straight up. I have a escort zx2 that I drive now so not a big diff in size but I am able to lean back more

I might see if I can drive another one today.

if you have the choice get the base model cruze over the cobalt. its just a way better built car. gas mileage is better and the looks are better. the cobalt will give you issues
