Just joined the forum.
My wife and I have been sharing a subaru wagon since 08 and kids are on the way. She wants me to buy a car.

So the cobalt seems to be a reasonable choice, but it seems odd that they have such a low resale value. Having owned four chevy's in my life (79 k20, 89 celebrity, 96 s10) I have never had bad experiences with them (and all very easy to work on). For 8k I have get a car with under 25k miles on it, good mileage, and reasonable safety. For honda or toyota I'd get a their compact model except with 100k on it.

Anyone know why? Is it just they were not popular? Model no longer produced?

Anyways I am going to go drive an auto tonight and hopefully the manual version tomorrow.

A few other questions
Timing belt or chain?
Interference engine or not?
If belt, what's the replacement schedule?
Any other maintenance issues?

Thanks
The BrewMouse

Chevy Cruz is the new cobalt, some people thought the cobalt was ugly. A lot of them were used as rental, company cars. As for maintaining it, its the best car I've owned. Oil changes every 5000, gettin about 34 mpg. Changing the timing belt/water pump, is going to be the same for about every vehicle, 100000
