Engine temp

I have a '07 Cobalt LT and it recently starting acting up a few days ago. My coolant temp would always read 180 when running at hwy speeds or in idle, and now it goes up to 200-220˚F (highest was 225) and was wondering if that is normal?

I changed the thermostat 2 months ago, coolant temp sensor 6 months ago and it should be running fine.

Also, the radiator fan doesn't seem to kick in like it used to and was wondering if that was a fuse problem. I checked them they look good.

Can anyone help?

Prolly a fuse. Do the fans turn on at all?. Heck to see if they turn on by turning ur ac on max. Also that helps cool the coolant

umm...no. unless you were talking about the fan

Yeah the fan turns on when ac is on and drops coolant temp to a good 180~

I checked the fuses and they look good. The fan does turn on, but it doesn't bring the temperature down. Its usually at around 199-205˚F when it used to be at 180 all the time in cold or extreme heat.

Ok assuming ur not overheating (means water pump is working ) . My best guess is faulty sensor. Check a few other things though. I've heard the ic pump fail but only on the 2.0 motors. Dunno not sure though.
I would like to know if ur car still reaches high temps with the thermostat out of the car.

I got the exact same issue. I have swapped the Thermostst to no avail

My next step it replacing the coolant temp sensor.

However I need help locating the part and how to swap? if anybody could help I would really appreacite it.

bumping another old thread lol!

a chevy tech told me that the fan shouldn't come on til the sensor reads ~230F... i thought that was insane, but i've never seen the fan come on unless the AC is on...even at 212F

i'm just taking his word that those temps are normal...
