Cutting springs...

I made this thread to see what peoples opinions are on the subject. Everyone at servorissues.net all dislike the concept in general, however I have read on quite a few other forums that it is a completely safe and acceptable way to lower and stiffen the ride in absence of money for lowering springs.

Lower? Sure it will.
Stiffer? You have not changed the spring rate so any increased stiffness is going to come from hitting the bump stops - not good.

Spend the cash for proper springs - cutting is for ricers with primered body kits and park bench wings imho.....

if you cut the backs it might not be bad but if you weakin the fronts by cutting them it could lead to your front strut assembly exploding which will kill you so i probly wouldnt do it

actually cutting the backs is pretty bad because they just sit in the housing. lifting a back tire would be bad because there's nothing to hold it in so say bye bye to the spring. yeah please don't cut. i'll drive there and slap you

yeah im too lazy to make one, the rear on the top and bottom has a specific size, it gets smaller cutting it would not allow it to snap into place, thus if you ever go over a bump that causes ur spring to unseat, u will bottom out, and ur spring will prob fly out, same for thr front the front on the bottom is a diffrent size than the top, and ont he bottom there is a little stopped thing that is has to line up with, cutting it wouldchange everything, the spring may become unseating, samethign aplies to burning them, whenu lift the tire, the spring cannot become unseating, both in the front and back, which is why u buy lowering springs...they will maintain enough force to stay on as you lift it, but when dropped down, they will let the car sit lower
