If you don't mind me asking, how much were the piston and rods, and where did you get them? I am thinking of doing this with a higher compression piston since i will never do any forced induction in mine. Just not sure what the $$$ will be and can't find a site that has any cobalt internal engine components.

rods/piston combo on ebay for 775. i'm in the same boat. i blew up 3 pistons, screwed my valves and cracked my crank. just got the engine back in pieces on friday and have been doing little by little to get it back together. zzperformance, turbo tech racing, modern performance, over the top performance, wiseco, eagle, supertech. those are companies you're going to want to get parts from. the only way you're going to get higher compression is to make a call to wiseco and have them custom build a set of pistons for you. keep in mind that rebuilding an engine isn't as easy as just replacing parts. there's machining and clearance checks you'll need to also

I have done atv's and dirtbikes before so i understand the concept, but have never done a car before. So higher compression pistons from cp or anything aren't available? That seems odd, but again, car mods haven't been my thing until now. But thanks for giving me some quality names to look for. I don't want some acme pistons chipping apart inside and bending my butter factory rods. sorry to hear about you guys problems. What caused all this? Is there an upgraded cam chain tensioner available? Bullet proof is always better than 20hp in my book.

well i was running more horsepower than the 2.2 can handle internally. the only higher compression pistons you can get are from wiseco i believe. but then you have to make sure clearances are good and you'd have to buy a set of forged rods with them for the wrist pins to fit i believe. gm did come with an upgraded timing chain tensioner, comes with every new timing set or you can buy it individually. but it'll be a pain in the ass to replace.

By clearance check you mean the clay stuff on the piston top to make sure the valves aren't hitting correct?

nope. making sure the oil gaps on all of the bearings are to spec and ring gap to make sure there's no blow-by in the cylinder wall

Oh. Yeah of course. Why half ass it? Do it right and you shouldn't have to worry for a long time to come.

Real street performance in Florida is where I got the pistons/rods.Crate engine depot for bolts that are TTY and have to be replaced,TTR,ZZP.I'm on a M62 with a 2.9 pulley and E85,so she will scream when back together again and the fuel cut will be moved up to 7800.

when do you expect it to run? i'm gonna be doing little by little throughout the week putting it back together and hopefully put it back in the car and put everything on externally this weekend. i can only hope haha. is your crank out of the car? you should probably get it balanced if you wanna rev that high, just to make sure you don't blow your bearings or walls
