This 2005 Cobalt LS has the alarm that came on randomly a while back, and can't be disabled now. The alarm goes off when opening the doors manually every time (it used to be off at all times). Tried everything that was suggested on the internet to get the alarm disabled again: replaced the key fob to try and disable it, tried the diff. combinations of turning on ignition / manually locking doors, etc. - nothing seems to work). Then thought it might something to do with the font hood latch sensor. I did already look for a hood latch sensor to check it, though this car doesn't seem to have one (none that I can see anyway, after taking the headlights out). Now it seems like it may have to do with the rear trunk sensor, since the last thing I remember doing when the alarm turned on was getting something out of the back trunk (when it was cold out). Can anyone share some advice on this at all? More specifically how to test to see if the rear trunk sensor is bad? Also how to go about finding it, and replacing if if needed. Wanted to add that I read the switch (for the rear trunk. is in the latch somewhere.

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. That alarm is tied to the keyfob and you'll need to hit the unlock button on a paired remote to get it to stop.
Thanks for that idea in any case. Thought that was one of the first things I tried. Just did it again and the alarm remains on.
Any other suggestions?
Other places suggested it had to do with front hood latch sensor ( though not sure 2005 LS models even have one). Not sure how to tsst and find out uf theyre bad before buying a new sensor.
Really trying to avoid taking this to dealer for an issue like this... Alarm not being able to turn off seems rather silly.

No hood latch sensor at all unless that's an aftermarket alarm.
Yeah it's just standard alarm. No after market.

Does it actually unlock with the remote?
Yeah, it unlocks, locks, and the alarm can be turned off (with the red horn button) AFTER it goes off.
The yellow "Lock" icon remains on in the dashboard. Nothing I have done so far (with the keyfob, or other - removing different fuses, etc.) has been able to get it off. Good times.
The dealership actually told me this during a recent call that the alarm can't be disabled, unless I take it in for a pricey diagnosis of course.
Does it start and run? I'm clueless at this point.
