Forgive me for my ignorance to anything vehicle related. I am about as dumb as bricks when it comes to vehicles.
I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt (no idea if it's LS or whatever...it's the sedan).
Anyways, a year or so ago, the power steering light went off and well, I got it fixed from the recall. From then, the instrument cluster has been giving me all sorts of problems. It started with the airbag warning light. It would come on randomly, then turn off. Next it was all the gauges. They would literally "spazz"... as in they would zero out, then bounce back and keep doing that over and over.
Well, I shipped to Basic and told my father to take a look at it. He drove it around the entire two months and the problem never happened, so he didn't bring it in.
Now almost a year later (started about 3 months ago when it started getting cold), the problem came back. Same shit...but this time worse. It happens much more frequently and takes longer for the problem to resolve itself.
I haven't yet picked up a scanner tool...mostly out of laziness, nor have I brought it to AutoZone to get it scanned for free.
After reading up a bit, I found it *might* be the ground wire. It makes sense since this issue only seems to really act up when it's cold...and stuff contracts when it's cold.
Now, I have no idea where the ground wire is in the car (other than somewhere under the hood) nor do I know the proper procedure to test to see if it is.
Dammit Jim, I'm a medic not a mechanic
