05 cobalt ls front speakers

hey guys, i am installing (trying to) my front speakers in my 05 cobalt and i was following the 'how to' thread i found here but i seem to have run into a bit of a problem, the speakers on my car seem to be a bit different, mine look like this

im wondering if there's an adapter i cant put so that it'll fit?
at this point im just tempted to start drilling.

The new speakers should have came with plastic rings that you put in before the speakers. Autozone and I think BestBuy sell them as accessories. Would'nt hurt anything if you drilled, I'd put some dynamat or foam behind the speaker mount if you went that route

the speakers didnt come with the 'rings' but i guess i'll go check autozone/bestbuy to see if i can find them if not i'll just start drilling.

i cut my stock black plastic piece off the stock speaker and used it for my aftermarket speaker works great

well after spending most of the afternoon trying to find the 'adapter' to call it something and not having any luck i think ima go to good old ebay to get the schosche adapter i found

well i bought 6.5 and they seem like they'll fit. i went to best buy but they had to be order online and the guy told me they're sold individual so it would've been like 20+dls and i got them @walmart for 13dls, plus shipping will take less time.
