i bought my 07 chevy cobalt back.in october of 2013. In november it suffered a blown head gasket. Fixed that up. New water pump, everything. Earlier this July i brought it into meineke because i had a random misfire. I was approved for a credit line for 1500. Reason.i say this is that they told me i needed a valve job. Now when they checked the compression.they all reported 150 ppi. So all cylinders were normal. So it could.not.be the valve. ( i think they were trying to gipp me of my credit line) so they told me fuel injectors and everything were fine. They told me that since i erased the code i needed to wait a while in order for it to come on again. So i waited 3 and a half weeks. And nothing. Drove it about 1400 miles. Weirdest thingg about this is that my car had oil residue everywhere. And i replaced my alternator. Tensioner and serpentine belt. They cleaned everything. Before you could tell there was a misfire because the engine would be constant then rumble. But after repair always constant. Should i be worried? I took it back to my mechanic they checked it and told.me everything was fine. But i just would like a second opinion. Thank you.

I wouldn't worry to much. You can get a motor from a junk yard and have it put it for around $800. If you are at all good with some hand tools, you should be able to get a motor for $400 and do it yourself. I am assuming your car is not an SS with a 2.0, because the section you have posted in. I would never take a car to a muffler shop, for engine work, these are USUALLY not top grade people. You'd been better off taking it to a chevy dealership, my opinion anyways.
I bought two motors this week for cobalts, one had 60k for $400, the other had 47k for $450. You can't change the head gasket and water pump for that price. I have bought them for as low as $200. Super easy to change. On a scale of 1 to 10(10 being an AUDI, lol) it's about a 3. So put a few bucks away, and save for a rainy day.
Case study in point, I have 2006 Cobalt that has been knocking for the last 3,000 miles. Bought it with a bad head(actually some body put a cavalier head on it), changed the head to find the lower end was no good. Runs pretty good even with the knock, I drive it about everywhere. I drove it around on three cylinders for about 500 miles before doing the head. These are tough little motors. Weakest part is the timing chain guides and oil tension-er.
