Trying to replace my front drivers side hub on my Cobalt LS, and everything was going smoothly until I tried removing the hub. Two hours of banging and prying (and yes, it's in park and parking brake on, and all three bolts removed,) nothing. It seems to be making a very little progress, but I'm still banging away. The axle does push in easily with my fingers. Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, I have some sort of metal guard that not only caused a nasty gash on my arm whilst untightening the bolts, but also keeps me from being to bang on the hub with the hammer from behind, and makes it hard to get a pry bar in there.

I had to use a slide hammer as well, on my 98 stratus I drilled a 5/16" hole or so in three places going in at a 45 degree angle between the flange and the spindle, and pounded in a tapered punch that I picked up at HF to get it loose. Once a little gap started pound in a normal chisel in the gap.
