Okay so I made an account on here because I am on my last week and I really don't know what else to do about my situation. I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt Lt 2.2 coop and about 3 weeks ago the clutch went out. I made a few calls and found a mechanic at Superior Auto ( he came highly referred by friends), who said he would put in a new clutch for $325 as long as I pick up a clutch kit. He also said he could get it done in a few days. Actually he said one but maybe two days. I drove to autozone and I bought a clutch kit. I gave it to him and I gave him my car and drove away with a friend. Next thing I know days are going by and still my car wasn't done. He finally called me and told me he drove my car from Tennessee to another shop of his in Virginia and now they can't get the car bled out. Finally he found out through the Chevy dealership that my car needs a special tool to bleed it out. He ordered the tool and when he got it days past and still my car wasn't fixed. Then he told me the slave cylinder was not sealing and was leaking. He told me it was defective and to not buy auto zone merchandise because they are crap. I took the clutch kit back and it was a fight with the manager but I got my money back and then he told me I need to get an AC Delco clutch kit and told me that's the only one that will work. He told me to go to Advanced Auto and they can order it for me because he does a lot of business with Advanced Auto. I went to Advanced Auto and talk to them and they told me there is no such thing as an AC Delco clutch kit and I would have to order the four main pieces I need separately with a whopping cost of $700 and only a 90 day warranty! Whereas their kit is $389 with a lifetime warranty. Then the man told me ACDelco doesn't even make clutches. It's a third-party merchants who will make it and ACDelco will slap their name on it. He told me the clutch kit they have and the one autozone has and the one AC Delco will send are the same things! Now I am in a bad position because the mechanic is basically demanding me to get an AC Delco clutch but I don't want to put out $700 on something that has only a 90 day warranty! The man at Advance Auto told me it sounds like this mechanic doesn't know what he is doing. Please somebody help me! Should I listen to the mechanic and spend out the money for AC Delco parts or should I demand him bring my car back and go somewhere else? A friend of mine is convinced that during him trying to get the car bled out, he damaged the slave cylinder on the autozone clutch kit. Bad enough he now wants to charge me more labor because he has to put in another clutch kit because he swears the first one was defective. What should I do?

IMO, this guy is trying to shaft you.

1. He drove your car basically 1000 miles, on your dime.
2. He bought a special tool to bleed the clutch that doesn't exist. It's a normal line wrench that you would use for brake bleeding.
3. A clutch kit for a 2.2 Cobalt from AutoZone is going to be the same as the one from Advanced Auto.

Honestly, get it towed to an actual GM dealership, have them supply the parts to fix it the right way. That guy doesn't sound like he knows what he's doing.

Also, get your money back from the mechanic, even if you have to hire a lawyer. That's some garbage.
