OK. So this is about a 2006 Cobalt LT. My daughter has a constant problem with those chrome rims that were on it when we bought it new. So she has to carry a portable air pump that plugs into the cig lighter socket. It blew the fuse under the hood. She brought it home. I wanted to see what amperage it was drawing with my fuse buddy (shows amperage in circuit). Pulled the blown fuse and put fuse buddy in. Plugged into cig lighter but not turned on. Fuse buddy in place of fuse and zeroed. Had compressor at front left tire so if something happened I could pull fuse buddy and kill circuit. Not connected to tire yet I turned compressor on. FB showing 7.5 amps. Cool, 20 amp fuse and circuit. while it was running connected hose to tire. I catch it out the corner of my eye within a second smoke starting to pour out of the car and immediately yanked FB. Look at it and it shows 75 amps... OK, that's what blew the fuse. Smoke had stopped after pulling FB. Pulled dash front off. Yes I should of unplugged battery at that point. To see positive to cig lighter up at dash melted. Pulled radio, etc out to see how far the melt welt. No other wires in harness seem to be damaged at this point. At this point what I'm looking to find out before I proceed any further does anyone know how far that wire goes back? Does it go to a connector up under the dash or does it go strait out to the fuse panel under the hood through the firewall? Before I pull the dash completely out. I cannot let my daughter drive the vehicle until I see if any more wires were damaged and repair or replace that cig wire. Don't want her driving down the road at 65 and smoke start pouring out from the dash cause her to wreck and kill her. I'm hoping someone has had their dash out before and seen the harness and it's routing. The wiring diag. shows it goes to a connector/intersection with the OBD connector. I would just like to get a good idea what I am getting into with the weather here in Maryland only being like 20* outside. No garage, just parking pad... :whymewhyme:

ANy help is much appreciated!

Afraid I don't know what path that wire takes. Hope you get it figured out.
