So is the exhaust manifold just bolted on? Or is it something I would have to cut and weld?

I need help finding an engine for a Cobalt 2.2 that threw a rod. The cobalt in question has an Air Check Valve, which I understand means I need to get an engine which has the exhaust manifold drilled and tapped, but don't need one that has an air check valve. Is that correct? I have been...
