No worries, one could assume that it was a 2.2 since you posted in the LS section, just wanted to be sure.
Here's what the GM Service Manual says for that code.

The ECM detects an open, short to ground, or a short to voltage on the control circuit or an open on the ignition voltage circuit for more than 0.25 second.
So things you need to check:
Oil, is it at the correct level, of the correct viscosity and when was it changed last?
Check the resistance of both of your CMP actuator solenoids, they should be 8-12ohms
If you find the solenoid that is bad (it'll be the one closest to the front of the car) it's pretty cake to replace if you know your way around a set of hand tools. I'll post instructions in a minute.

1.) Remove the intake manifold cover.
2.) Disconnect the intake (3) camshaft position actuator solenoid valve electrical connector.
3.) Remove the intake (2) CMP actuator solenoid valve bolt and valve. Note: Valve cover does not need to be removed for this procedure.
4.) Inspect the solenoid valve O-ring seals from damage, replace as necessary. If you find one is broken this is likely the cause of the CEL. Install the original actuator with new O-rings.
Installation Procedure
1.) Lubricate the solenoid valve O-ring seals with clean engine oil.
2.) Install the intake (2) CMP actuator solenoid valve and bolt, tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in). Important: Remember that's inch lbs not foot lbs.
3.) Connect the intake (3) camshaft position actuator solenoid valve electrical connector.
4.) Install the intake manifold cover.
Images didn't show up so here's an image that I can explain from. Cyl 1 is on the passenger side of the motor, just to the left of that spark plug coil are 2 smaller plugs, those are the cam actuators. You want to disconnect and remove the one closest to the front bumper. In my picture there's a long ziptie end that runs right over the top of them. Just squeeze the clip and pull to remove the connector.
Best of luck, I would make sure it doesn't need new O-rings first, and if everything else appears fine I would replace the actuator.
Here's what I believe the part number is 12628347 Make sure to verify with a local dealership that this is the correct part for your car. GMpartsdirect.com has it for $29.91+shipping. Dealer will want at least $50.46.
